MATINS

Matins is the office sung in the dark before dawn, the watch kept until the light arrives. Four thousand four hundred and forty-four engravings, struck on parchment to mark the first light of Arc.

The sealed folio: a folded sheet held shut by a wax seal struck with an arch

Vision

Arc was built for money that moves: settlement, payments, institutions. It is not a chain that expects art.

That is exactly why its first light deserves a record.

Every consequential beginning has been recorded by hand. Not announced, not posted. Recorded, by someone who sat with it long enough to draw it. A ledger opening, a charter signed, a gate raised: somebody inked the moment onto a sheet and the sheet outlived everyone involved.

Matins is that sheet. It does not explain Arc and it does not promise anything about it. It marks the hour, the way the office that gives the collection its name marks the hour before dawn, sung in the dark by the same hands that copied manuscripts by candlelight.

The office

Four pieces to read by. Make a coffee first.

Matins is sung, so there is music here. Nothing starts on its own and nothing follows you around: press a line and it plays, keep reading and it keeps playing.

Mission

Record, don't announce

The work is an artifact, not a campaign. It carries a date, a number and a hand, and nothing it cannot keep.

Draw it, don't prompt it

No diffusion model touched this collection. Every line is a computed pen stroke, every sheet of parchment a stack of filters. It is generative art in the older sense: rules that draw, not a model that guesses.

Mark the ones who were there

The people who show up on day one of a network rarely have anything to show for it afterwards. A folio is a durable, transferable mark of having been present at the opening.

Leave the method open

The generator is deterministic: a folio number in, the same drawing out, forever. Once the collection is revealed, the source that draws it is published, so anyone can verify their plate was never touched by hand.

Make the mark worth carrying

A folio should open something, not only exist. Businesses can offer holders whatever they choose, and every arrangement is listed here in the open with a link to whoever made it. The first are being arranged now, and none of them gets named before it is signed.

The art

Every line is a pen stroke that was calculated, not sampled.

A drawn line is never straight and never uniform. So each contour here is traced twice at different weights and opacities, the way a real nib re-inks a line, over control points that wander. The whole plate then passes through a turbulence field that warps it the way a hand warps a ruler.

The parchment is built the same way. Mottling, fibres, foxing spots, the crease of a folded sheet, a torn deckle edge: all of it is generated, none of it photographed. Shading is done in broken hatch strokes, the way an engraver shades: thousands of short cuts, never a gradient.

The mint

Four stages, on OpenSea.

Arc settles gas in USDC, so USDC is simply the price. No approvals, no wrapped token, one transaction.

Anything the allowlist stages leave unminted rolls forward into the public stage. Nothing is burned and the supply never rises.

The contract address and the OpenSea link are published on this page on mint day.

Nowhere else, and never early. Any address posted before mint day is a fake, whoever posted it and however official the account looks. Check it here, on this page, and nowhere else. We will never send it to you in a message.

The reveal

Sealed for one week.

Every folio mints sealed: the same folded sheet, held shut by wax, with the engraving on the other side faintly soaking through the parchment. One week after the mint closes, the seals break and all 4,444 plates take their form.

The full collection is pinned to IPFS before a single folio is minted, so the art is public from the start. What stays unknown is the mapping, which token holds which folio, and that is fixed by an offset published at the reveal.

Nothing is drawn after the fact and nothing is chosen by us. The generator ran once, the sheets exist, and the week is just the wait.

The original

Burn the folio, keep the sheet.

A holder can give up a folio and receive the same plate struck on real parchment, by hand, posted anywhere at no cost. The sheet carries the number the folio had on chain, so the record and the object agree.

It is an exchange rather than a bonus. The token is destroyed and cannot come back, which is what makes the sheet worth having: one plate, one copy, and the on-chain supply falls by one every time somebody does it.

Roadmap

There is no token, no staking and no second collection on this roadmap. If that changes it will be because holders asked for it, not because a roadmap promised it.

Partners

A folio should be worth carrying.

Businesses can offer holders whatever they choose. A discount, an upgrade, an item, entry to something. The first is close: a stay, at a substantial discount, honoured by showing the folio at the desk. It gets named here with a link the day it is signed. Announcing a partnership before that is how you end up retracting one.

It is open to any kind of business, anywhere: a hotel, a shop, a restaurant, a studio, a service, an online store. No fee passes in either direction. We announce the partnership, list the business here with a link, and enter it in the register.

The Vigil

Keep the four offices and your arch stands.

An arch is built from both haunches upward, and it holds nothing until the last stone drops into the crown. Keep an office and a voussoir is set. Keep all four and the keystone falls. That is your mark, and it travels with your application.

Leave your mark below in the replies. Each scribe who applies through it is counted to you.

Your mark decides your GTD place. The 1,333 guaranteed folios are ordered by how many entries arrive on your mark. The 2,000 FCFS folios are not, so bringing nobody costs you nothing there. Your handle and your count appear on the standings below.

Offices are kept on your honour and stored in this browser. They travel with your application below, and they are checked against X before an allowlist spot is granted, and an unkept office found later simply voids the application.

Reading the standings…

Allowlist

Two ways in.

GTD is a guaranteed allocation: 1,333 folios, free, reserved against your address and held until its stage closes. Places are ordered by how many entries arrive on your mark, so this is the list you climb by bringing people in.

FCFS is 2,000 folios at 3 USDC, first come first served among approved addresses, two per wallet. Referrals count for nothing here on purpose: someone who brought no one is judged on their entry alone. Being approved does not guarantee a folio. It guarantees you a place in the queue.

Entries are read by a person. There is no required background: someone who found Arc this week counts the same as someone building on it since testnet, and a first NFT counts the same as a hundredth. What does not count is an empty answer, or one a machine wrote.

Sign in with X

We read your handle and nothing else. No posting, no messages, and the token is discarded the moment we have it. It proves the account is yours.

Your entry is in. Nothing else to do for now. This is an application, not a spot. Every entry is read, the offices are checked against X, and the approved addresses are published before the mint opens. There is no confirmation email, so follow @voussoriart, which is where that list and every other announcement goes.

Questions

Why is there no mint date?

Because it is not ours to set. The mint runs on OpenSea, and OpenSea does not support Arc yet. The collection is finished and waiting; the schedule is published the day that changes. We would rather hold than announce a date that depends on somebody else's roadmap. When it moves, it will be announced on @voussoriart first.

Is this AI art?

No. No diffusion model, no image generator, no prompt. The drawing is produced by a program that computes pen strokes: jittered control points, doubled contours, broken hatch shading. It generates the parchment as layered filters. The same folio number always produces the same plate, and the source will be published so that can be verified.

What does it cost, and in what?

5 USDC public, 3 USDC for FCFS, free for GTD. Arc settles gas in USDC, so USDC is the native currency of the chain, so there is no approval step and no wrapped token involved. One transaction.

What happens in the sealed week?

Nothing you need to do. Every folio shows the same sealed sheet until one week after the mint closes, then all 4,444 resolve to their plates at once. The art is already pinned and public before the mint. Only the mapping between token and folio is withheld, and it is fixed by an offset published at the reveal.

How are allowlist spots decided?

Two different ways, on purpose. GTD is ordered by referrals: the 1,333 places go down the standings, most entries brought first. FCFS ignores referrals entirely and is read by a person, so someone who brought nobody is judged on their entry alone. That is deliberate. If everything ran on referrals then only people who already have an audience could get in, and arriving at Arc after mainnet, or buying a first NFT, would count against you. It does not.

What are the royalties?

5%, declared on-chain through ERC-2981 so every marketplace reads the same number.
